February 2, is my birthday and this year it was a milestone, half-century.  I had planned to be celebrating this birthday by travelling to Africa to experience a safari and take pictures of many amazing animals.  Unfortunately, COVID changed all that.  However Viktor Frankl offers us wisdom; “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves”.  So I have decided to launch the 1971 project, to celebrate this birthday differently than how I had planned.  I have committed to producing 19 pieces this year and offer them for sale for $71.00, Hence the 19-71 project.  These pieces will be selected to challenge and develop my skills, to learn a new technique, a new medium, or substrate.  I will be looking to learn from other artists, taking a class, following a tutorial, or studying a youtube video.  At the conclusion of the project proceeds from the sales (less material expense) will be donated to charity.  I’m thinking Children’s Aid and Animal Rescue as my paintings often are of animals and humans.  I don’t know what kind of response I will get, but either way, I suspect the adventure will be memorable for me.  If you want to follow my journey, I will share my materials list, my resources and what I had learned from each piece over on my website and in my newsletter.

Amplify-2022 Project represents pieces created as a result of intentional learning projects over this next year.  Many will be tutorials, or lessons learned from other artists.  These will be offered for a minimal investment to encourage others to experience the joy of original art collection.
